Subject: FW: Property Tax Relief - Not for Disable 100 P/T Veterans or the poor in Tennessee
Hi there, I want to thank you for your post about the tax relief for us in TN. I called our local Paralyzed Veterans Office, since my husband was a life member of it. They have advocates to fight on issues like the one mentioned. I was shocked to find out than they, the advocates in Memphis, have NO idea that there is a danger of us losing this exemption. I was wondering if you would be willing to call 901 - 523 8990 and ask to be connected to the PVA office. The lady answering the phone will be Sharon Mound. I feel our Veterans deserve to be represented by their advocates on this issue. I would very much appreciate you getting in touch with the PVA. There is a much bigger chance that way to keep this tax relief. I thank you for your help. Please, keep us informed. Thanks again.

Subject: Property Tax Relief - Not for Disable 100 P/T Veterans or the poor in Tennessee
As anyone heard about the veteran caucus that the governor is having on Monday afternoon about the property tax relief bill?
For your information:
This is the second time of revisiting this issue once was last year 107th General Assembly, SB2599 by Norris and HB2503 by Sargent - Taxes, Real Property - As enacted, provides that if the comptroller determines that annual appropriations would be insufficient to permit full payment of claims reflecting the income and value standards established in the tax relief provisions or in the annual appropriations act, the comptroller must calculate and apply a factor to uniformly adjust individual payments to permit all timely claims to be paid within the limits of the appropriation. - Amends TCA Title 67. Is that ...
Now we move up to this year (107th General Assembly) HB 1197 by *Ragan and (SB 1336) by *McNally, http://wapp.capitol.tn.gov/apps/BillInfo/Default.aspx?BillNumber=HB1197&ga=109.
Placed on cal. Local Government Committee for 3/31/2015. Please understand that a Permanent and Total disable American vet's with a spouse only receives approximately $3150 or 6500 if the veteran has lost both legs during the war that would be the high side of conversation for the veteran) a month and $800-$1800 a month from Social Security. His Social Security would be the same as ours on how many quarters he has paid in during the veterans lifetime for Social Security disability. And if the veteran is limited to household income limits of 50,00 and/or 60,000, then no veteran well-qualified.
Property Tax Relief - Not for Disable 100 P/T Veterans in Tennessee
I would encourage you to forward this to other veterans in Tennessee and have them call their reps and senators.
History on this Bill for Property Tax Relief:
This Bill was introduced the first time during 107th General Assembly and did not pass because veterans were able to look up this Bill by typing in a search for "veterans". I have listed this information at the very bottom for your reference.
No less fast-forward to 108th General Assembly in order to make our Tennessee government more transparent the website that you look up would be easier for all Tennesseans. What a joke! If you will take a look at the Senate bill 1336 in the house bill 1197 you will find no information in the text line dealing with veterans or lower income families or people over 65. Without this information in the bill there is no way that a veteran, low income, or persons over the age of 65. Could do a search like "Veteran" for those bills to appear.
This is absolutely totally dishonest, disgraceful, and on ethical to deliberately trick our veterans as thinking there is no bill for this year. Open government by this administration has been the most closed that I have ever seen during my lifetime. These groups of people are having private meetings and dealings under the table with the governor and other members of our Senate and our representatives one of the local newspaper in another county. What happened to the sunshine law! What ever happened to honesty in government! What ever happened to the people that we fold in office taking care of the ones who served this country.
Now we stop this one other time last year. And we can do it again. You need to get on the phone and start calling with the ones who put that bill forward (Senate McNally and Reps Ragan both from East Tennessee). I was told Reps Ragan was an Officer in the United States Air Force. I would not want him on my team as a veteran. If you'll watch the video and make sure you pull down the list for Bill 1197; you'll see how our state government is run and thus that's who sacrifice much for this country are ran over.
